New York (United Nations), 25 September 2021 (SPS) - The president of Namibia, Hage G. Geingob, defended on Thursday in New York for the inalienable right of the Sahrawi people to freedom and independence, welcoming the appointment of Alexander Ivanko, the new special representative of the UN Secretary General in Western Sahara.
"It is now almost 50 years that the people of Western Sahara are still waiting to exercise their inalienable right to freedom and independence," the Namibian president lamented during his speech at the UN.
He expressed his hope that the new Special Representative of the UN SG for Western Sahara will devote his full attention to the issue to enable the people of Western Sahara to exercise their right to self-determination.
