Plundering of Sahrawi resources: Polisario determined to lodge complaint against European companies

Brussels, 14 August 2021 (SPS) - Representative of the Polisario Front to Europe and the European Union Abi Bouchraya Bachir underlined Friday that the Front is determined, especially as the Court of Justice of the European Union (CJEU) has confirmed Morocco’s non-sovereignty over Western Sahara, to lodge complaints against the European companies involved in the plundering of the Sahrawi people’s resources.
“Considering its legal status and its political and legal responsibilities towards the Sahrawi territory and people, the Polisario Front will spare no effort to put an end to the plundering of the Sahrawi resources and the involvement of managers of European companies in the crime of the occupation,” he said in a statement to APS.
“We are determined, after the confirmation of CJEU’s resolutions, to lodge complaints against the European companies and officials behind the plundering the Sahrawi resources and crimes against humanity,” he added.
The legal arsenal consists notably in affirming the legal situation of the territory and Morocco’s non-sovereignty over Western Sahara, as stipulated by the court orders of 2016 and 2018, said Abi Bouchraya Bachir, citing, in this regard, the Sahrawi people’s inalienable right to self-determination and the Sahrawi people’s only legal and political representation by the Polisario Front.
Pending the promulgation of CJEU’s decisions next month, the Polisario Front’s representative affirmed that there will be “important decisions because the acts of the Council and of Morocco in 2019 constitute a flagrant violation of the Court’s resolutions and had a negative impact in the peaceful settlement process… leading to the failure of the ceasefire process in November 2020.”
EU’s positions in favor of Morocco at the expense of the Sahrawi people contributed, one way or another, to the deterioration of the situation, and to the sufferings of the Sahrawi people, i.e. postponing the region’s peoples dream for a lasting and fair solution, he added.
Once the decisions promulgated, as it is expected, the legal framework in which the European companies are operating will become null and void, and all their investments in Western Sahara will be outlaw, underlined Abi Bouchray Bachir. (SPS)
