United Kingdom reiterates its support for self-determination of Sahrawi people

London, 3 May 2021 (SPS) - British Minister of State for the Middle East and North Africa, James Cleverly, recently reiterated the UK's support for UN-led efforts to achieve a just and lasting political solution that provides for the self-determination of the Sahrawi people.
"The UK fully supports the UN-led efforts, as clearly set out in UN Security Council Resolution 2548, to achieve a just, lasting and mutually acceptable political solution (...) which provides for the self-determination of the people of Western Sahara in accordance with the principles and objectives of the UN Charter", the Minister of State replied to a question from Labour MP Rachel Hopkins
James Cleverly, was responding to a question about what discussions he had on the issue of self-determination referendum at the last Security Council meeting on Western Sahara.
"We strongly support the efforts of the UN Secretary General to appoint a personal envoy as soon as possible so that consultations between the parties can resume," he added. (SPS)
