Canary Government underscores Spanish state’s responsibility for Saharawi issue

Canary Islands, 21 February 2021 (SPS)- Vice-president of the Canary Islands,Mr. Román Rodríguez, has made an appeal to the government of Mr. Pedro Sánchez to assume Spanish state’s full responsibility to conduct self-determination referendum in Western Sahara, as to intervene to halt Morocco’s violations of human rights.

In a meeting with POLISARIO representative in Madrid Mr. Abdallahi Al-Arabi, the Canary official indicated that supporting the Saharawi issue has long been a priority in the political and humanitarian programme of his government.

In a visit to Canary institutions ahead of the commemoration of SADR proclamation, the Saharawi diplomat, for his part, hailed Canary’s great historic support to the Saharawi people, reflected in a positive noticeable reality in the Saharawi refugee camps. (SPS)
