Bir Lehlu, Feb 08, 2021 (SPS) - The 34th Summit of Heads of State and Government of the African Union (AU) held in the Ethiopian capital, Addis Ababa, by video conference in due to the COVID-19 pandemic, has clearly demonstrated that Morocco has no sovereignty over Western Sahara.
The Saharawi Republic's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Mohamed Salem Salec, in a statement released today, said that the continental organization has reaffirmed the sovereignty of the Saharawi Republic over the entire territory of Western Sahara.
"On the issue of sovereignty, which is the essence of the conflict and the cause of the war, the AU rejected the Moroccan maneuver aimed at setting up infrastructure projects in West Africa across the  occupied zones and stressed the need for an absolute commitment to respect the borders and territorial integrity of member states.
The AU has also decided to submit the two drafts to a subcommittee of the Permanent Representatives Committee in order to obtain the approval of the Saharawi government, which is the only one to have a connection with any project affecting the territory of the SADR from near or far ", indicates the press release of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the SADR.
He adds: "Morocco's defeat on this fundamental issue proves once again that the international community will never recognize its sovereignty over our country, whatever it does".
It should be noted that the extraordinary summit held last December decided to hold a meeting of the African Peace and Security Council with the aim of reaching with the two Member States, the SADR and the Kingdom of Morocco, a peaceful solution and a new ceasefire based on respect for the rights of the Saharawi people and the principles and objectives of the African Union and the United Nations.SPS
