President Ghali invites AU leaders to adopt thanks motion to President Ramaphosa

Addis Ababa (Ethiopia) 07 February 2021 (SPS)- President of the Republic, Secretary General of the Frente POLISARIO, H.E. Brahim Ghali, on Saturday invited heads of state and government of the African Union to issue a motion of thanks to South African President and outgoing AU Chairperson, H.E. Cyril Ramaphosa, for the outstanding achievements the AU has achieved under his chairmanship.
Addressing the 34th ordinary session of AU Assembly, held vía online platforms, the Saharawi President said that President Ramaphosa “deserves all thanks and appreciate from this summit for the commendable exceptional efforts he made while assuming the presidency of the African Union in 2020.”
These efforts, added President Gali, contributed to the advancement of the African Union and ensured that Africa takes its rightful place in the world.
“We must bear in mind the accomplishments achieved by the African Union under the chairmanship of Mr. Ramaphosa, who demonstrated an exemplary dedication and commitment to defend the principles and objectives of the Union, as well as a deep-rooted commitment to the ideals of African unity and solidarity among nations of the South,” underlined President Gali, in his address to the summit.
President Gali hailed the dynamic and effectiveness that characterized Ramaphosa administration’s dealing with COVID-19 pandemic, adding that he was able to steer AU summit 2020 with an active, inspiring and distinct style.
President Gali also seized this opportunity to recall Ramaphosa’s great contributions to the continent’s integration process as well as the political, economic and social stability.
Head of the Saharawi state highlighted the various accomplishments the AU achieved during the last mandate, of which AU’s appropriate response to COVID-19 pandemic through creating AU COVID-19 RESPONSE FUND, appointment of special representatives, creation of Africa Medical Supply Platform and establishment of the African Vaccine Acquisition Task Team.
President Gali indicated that Ramaphosa’s chairmanship of the Union has seen the start of trading phase under the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), adding that he worked hard for peace, development and the promotion of good governance and democracy in the continent. (SPS)
