President of Republic attends AU virtual summit on Free Trade Area

Johannesburg (South Africa) December 05, 2020 (SPS) - President of the Republic, Secretary General of the Polisario Front, Mr. Brahim Gali, participates in the thirteenth extraordinary session of the AU Heads of State and Government on the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), started today, Saturday, vía virtual online platforms because of the social distancing conditions caused by COVID-19.

The opening ceremony featured statements by the Chairperson of African Union, President of South Africa, Mr Cyril Ramaphosa, Chairperson of the African Union Commission, Mr. Moussa Faki Mahamat and the Secretary General of AfCFTA, Mr Wamkele Mene.

The 2-day virtual summit, the first of its kind, will deliberate on the adoption of the report of the leader and champion of the AfCFA, President of Niger, Mr. Issoufou Mahamadou.

During this extraordinary summit will be the handover of the instruments for the start of trading, by the Chairperson of the AU Commission Mr. Moussa Faki Mahamat, to the member states and to AfCFTA Secretary General Mr. Wamkele Mene.

African leaders will examine the adoption of the decision on the start of trading under the African Continental Free Trade Area and the adoption of the Johannesburg Declaration on the start of trading under the African Continental Free Trade Area.

African leaders will virtually participate tomorrow, Sunday, the thirteenth extraordinary session on Silencing the Guns. (SPS)
