ÓSF denounces Morocco’s military operation against Saharawi civilians

Submitted on

Dublin (Ireland), 23 November 2020 (SPS) - Youth wing of the Irish political party Sinn Féin (ÓSF) strongly condemned the military attack conducted by Moroccan forces in the Saharawi buffer zone of Guergerat, with aim to crack down on peaceful civilians, who were peacefully protesting against the illegal breach in the region.
Expressing unconditional support to the Saharawi people, Ógra Shinn Féin, held in a statement the UN and Security Council responsible for ensuring safety and well-being of the Saharawi civilians, especially those living in the occupied part of the Saharawi Republic, who are severely exposed to illegal acts by Morocco.
The statement urged the Irish government to contribute to pushing the Settlement Plan forward, by using its seat within the Security Council in order for the international community to seriously and firmly stand by the side of the Saharawi issue.
There is no other option to end the conflict in Western Sahara except by allowing the Saharawi people to enjoy self-determination, as agreed upon in the Settlement Plan and articulated in the Security Council Resolution 690 (1991).
Ógra Shinn Féin (ÓSF) is the youth wing of the Irish Republican Party Sinn Féin, one of the major political parties in Ireland. (SPS)
