Bir Lehlou (Saharawi Republic) 21 October 2020 (SPS)- The President of the Saharawi Republic and Secretary General of Polisario Front, Brahim Ghali, congratulated New Zealand Prime Minister, Jacinda Ardern, for “outstanding re-election for a second term in government”, in a letter he addressed her on October 18.
“It is a pleasure to write to you on behalf of the Saharawi people to offer our warmest congratulations on the occasion of your outstanding re-election for a second term in government,” President Ghali stressed.
He further emphasized that “Labour party’s resounding landslide victory is a clear endorsement for your leadership and a testament for the trust the people of New Zealand have in you to keep moving your country forward in the right direction for three more years.”
President Ghali estimated that “the achievements of your Government and the moral courage which you have shown during your term of office on matters related to the protection of refugees, human rights, climate change, multilateralism and tolerance are most admirable.”
He valued “the ties of friendship and solidarity that exist between our two peoples. We continue to recall warmly your visit to the Saharawi refugee camps in 2008 and are aware of your deep understanding of the history of our country.”
He further expressed gratitude “to the leadership provided by New Zealand during its membership of the UN Security Council on unprecedented challenges faced by the MINURSO mission in 2016-17.”
He finally expressed firm hope that during Arden’s new mandate “our two nations will pursue and strengthen the already existing relations of friendship and solidarity.” (SPS)
