Saharawi Foreign Ministry dubs Nasser Bourita's statements as a clear Moroccan expansionist project failure in Western Sahara

Bir Lehlu (Liberated Areas), May 06, 2020 (SPS) - The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic has described the recent statements by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Moroccan occupation regime, Nasser Bourita, as a reflection of the failure of the illegal expansionist project in Western Sahara.
In a statement issued this Wednesday, the Saharawi minister reproached the head of diplomacy of the Moroccan regime, Bourita, for having tried to blame Algeria for "instability in the region" and question its memorable position of support for the just struggle of the Saharawi people to self-determination and independence.
During the Virtual Summit "United against COVID-19" of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM), held last Monday, May 4, 2020, via videoconference, the Moroccan representative has unjustifiably reloaded on the North African neighbor for its unconditional support for the decolonization process in Western Sahara.
For the Saharawi ministry, the Moroccan intervention comes to protest against the historic speech of the President of Algeria, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, who has renewed the urgent need to intervene to end the wars and occupation regimes in the region and has demanded the Council of UN Security assumes its responsibility in the matter.
"There is no doubt that the Moroccan minister is aware that the international community does not recognize Morocco's sovereignty over Western Sahara and that in 1979 the United Nations organization described the Moroccan presence in parts of the Saharawi Republic as illegal occupation" , indicates the Saharawi communiqué.
In line, the Saharawi diplomat also reminds Morocco that the opinions of the UN and the African Union also qualify Morocco as an occupying power and its illegal presence in Western Sahara lacks any legal support, as has also been certified by recent judgments of the European Court of Justice.
"The nervousness shown by the Moroccan minister demonstrates the magnitude of the conflict in which the occupier is due to the failure of his aggressive expansionist project against the Saharawi people, which frustrated all the plots aimed at confiscating their rights to self-determination, independence and sovereignty" adds the statement.
It is also clarified that the reasons for instability in the region are given by Morocco's aspirations to invade the borders of neighboring countries, the lack of commitments to international legality and the attempt to drown the region with drugs.
To conclude, the Saharawi official adds that Nasser Bourita's attitude is given by the upheaval of Morocco in the face of the early position of Algeria, a country of one and a half million martyrs, and his unwavering position of support for the Saharawi people, as a faithful defender of the liberation struggles and processes of self-determination and independence of the peoples.SPS
