National Secretariat commends African Union's commitment to defend unity of continent, right of its peoples to freedom and independence

Shaheed al-Hafed, September 30, 2019 (SPS) - The National Secretariat of the Polisario front commended the African Union for its adherence to its founding charter and its unwavering defense of the unity of the continent and the right of its peoples to freedom and independence, as well as its principled positions and commitment to the laws governing Africa's partnerships with countries and continental and international organizations, in a statement following its its 11th regular session,

The National Secretariat also hailed the principled and consistent position of Algeria on the Sahrawi issue, which reflects the strength and excellence of the relationship based on brotherhood, friendship and eternal alliance between the Algerian and Sahrawi peoples.

It appreciated the development of brotherly, friendly and good neighborly relations and the level of cooperation and coordination between the Islamic Republic of Mauritania and the Sahrawi Republic.

It paid tribute to the Solidarity Movement and all the brothers and friends in the world for the positions that support the right of the Sahrawi people to self-determination.

It hailed the positions expressed at the 74th session of the UN General Assembly by several states urgently demanding enabling the Sahrawi people to exercise their inalienable right to freedom and independence.

It recalled the seriousness of the impasse in the African and United Nartions settlement process due to repeated obstacles by the Moroccan regime in the absence of any deterrence from the Security Council, the vacuum resulting from the resignation of former the UN Secretary General’s Personal Envoy, Mr. Horst Koehler, and the slowdown in the appointment of a successor.

While affirming its permanent cooperation and positive and constructive engagement with the United Nations, the National Secretariat stands firm on the right of the Sahrawi people to continue to fight by all legitimate means to complete sovereignty over the entire national territory, since not taking serious steps towards finding a just solution that will ensure the aspiration of the Saharawi people to self-determination and independence and the Moroccan regime's continued policy of intransigence and negligence and its quest to ignite tension in the region.
