Prime Minister receives World Food Program representative in Algeria

Chahid El-Hafed, Sept 11, 2019 (SPS) - Saharawi Prime Minister Mohamed Luali Akeík has received the resident representative of the World Food Program (WFP) before the Democratic People's Republic of Algeria, Imed Khanfir, who was accompanied by the representative of the world organization in Tindouf.
During the meeting, the parties discussed ways to improve coordination between the world organization and the Saharawi institutions to improve humanitarian assistance and the distribution of aid for refugees. They also agreed to improve the implementation of assistance projects under the World Food Program.
The new MAP representative has also been received by the president of the Saharawi Red Crescent, Buhubeini Yahya, with whom he discussed the close relationship between the two humanitarian intuitions and the important work to be done to assist the Saharawi refugees.
According to the statement issued by the Saharawi Red Crescent, the World Food Program approved in its annual session the Strategic Plan 2019-2022 to support the basic basket of refugees, strengthen the school diet and stimulate complementary productive activities.
Currently, and according to the statements of the MLRS, the number of shelters ranges between 125,000 and 133,672 refugees, representing 77% of the total Sahrawi refugees in Algeria.
