President of Timor Leste reiterates support to Sahrawi people’s right of self-determination

Dili (Timor Leste) August 31, 2019 (SPS) - President of Timor Leste, Dr. Francisco Guterres, has reiterated the firm support to the Sahrawi people and their right to self-determination in speech on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the referendum of the self-determination of the Timorese people, delivered on Thursday at the reception in honor of the participating foreign delegations and diplomatic corps.
"In this regard, as we celebrate the twentieth anniversary of the referendum on the self-determination of the Timorese people, I cannot but draw the attention of each of you to the issue of a brotherly people of Western Sahara, and I take the opportunity to express to them our deepest feelings of solidarity in the name of the Timorese people," said the President of Timor Leste.
In a speech delivered on Friday, at a crowded festival in the presence of the participating delegations, President of Timor Leste, Dr. Francisco Guterres, reaffirmed solidarity with the just cause of the Sahrawi people, in a clear message of determination and emphasis on the principled position, referring to the difficult conditions of the Sahrawi people and their desperate struggle for their right to freedom and independence.
"In Timor Leste, we will continue to extend our support, cooperation and friendship to the people of Western Sahara, this is the position of the people of Timor Leste as a people in solidarity with just causes, who stand with human rights at all costs, and who have struggled courageously to achieve justice and peace inside and outside their country,” he said.
