Sahrawi Ambassador presents his credentials as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Sahrawi Republic to Uganda

Kampala (Uganda) May 12, 2019 (SPS) - Sahrawi Ambassador Hammadi Bashir was received on Tuesday by Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni, at the State Headquarters in Kampala, who presented his credentials as an Extraordinary Ambassador of the Sahrawi Arab Republic of Uganda.

During the ceremony, President of the Republic of Uganda, Mr. Yoweri Museveni, affirmed his country's firm commitment to the right of self-determination of the Sahrawi people, stressing that the decolonization of the African continent is a right guaranteed by the Charter of the African Union and the resolutions of the Security Council and the General Assembly of the United Nations.

The Sahrawi Ambassador conveyed the greetings of the President of the Republic, Secretary-General of the POLISARIO Front, Brahim Ghali, to President Yoweri Museveni, stressing the strength and depth of the relationship between the Republic of Uganda and the Sahrawi Republic.

The Saharawi Ambassador on Tuesday had submitted a copy of his credentials at the Ugandan Foreign Ministry to Mr. Henry Oryem Okello, State Minister for Foreign Affairs.

The Republic of Uganda recognized the Sahrawi Republic on September 6, 1979 and agreed to lift relations between the two countries to the level of ambassadors. The two countries have strong and distinct relations, it should be recalled. (SPS)
