Polisario Front calls COFACE to end illegal activities in Western Sahara

Submitted on

Paris (France), November 4, 2018 (SPS) - Polisario Front called on the French insurance company for foreign trade COFACE to stop all activities in occupied Western Sahara, demanding that it uphold the decisions of the Court of Justice of the European Union (CJUE) banning all economic activity without the consent of Western Sahara people.
Polisario Front sent, through a bailiff, a summons on 31 October to the COFACE to stop its activities in Western Sahara, said M'hamed Khaddad, the head of Polisario Front's Foreign Relations Committee, adding that the French insurance company "should fully abide by the CJUE's decisions of 21 December 2016 and 27 February 2018."
CJUE's decisions stipulate that Morocco and Western Sahara are "two separate territories and the Kingdom (of Morocco) has no sovereignty on this territory or on the adjacent waters and there should not be and economic activity there without the consent of Western Sahara people."
The Polisario Front said "the COFACE continues to flout the decisions of the CJUE as its official website shows a map of Morocco "illegally" including Western Sahara territory, which the French government itself has not done on the website of the ministry of Foreign Affairs."
M'hamed Khaddad, who is also coordinator with the UN Mission for the Referendum on Western Sahara (MINURSO), said "there is no doubt on the legal status."
The Sahara official recalled that in July 2018, the European Council and the European Commission stressed that no agreement concluded with Morocco shall apply to the territory of Western Sahara." (SPS)
