Nigeria expresses its support to UN and AU efforts to find solution to Western Sahara question

New York, Oct 17, 2018 (SPS) – Permanent Mission of The United Federal Republic of Nigeria to the United Nation, DR. Ibrahim Modibbo Umar has expressed his country support to the efforts being made by the African Union troika in addressing the issue of Western Sahara. Nigeria also supports the process of negotiations initiated by the UN Security Council on Western Sahara at the general assembly debate of the fourth committee on general debate on decolonization (items 59-63)
The Nigerian diplomat has also commended the efforts being made by the UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres and the Personal Envoy of the Secretary-General for Western Sahara, Horst Kiihler in conducting both formal and informal meetings and negotiations on Western Sahara.
“Nigeria has been fully supportive over the years of all efforts to resolve the Western Sahara problem, and thereby strengthen the strong bonds of kinship within the continent. We look forward to a better and more assured outcome of the United Nations Mission for the Referendum in Western Sahara (MINURSO).” Ibrahim Modibbo Umar syas in his intervention SPS
