Portuguese Parliament stresses Western Sahara people's right to self-determination

Lisbon (Portugal), March 18, 2018 (SPS) - The Assembly of the Republic of Portugal (parliament) has approved a motion through which it welcomed the resumption of Western Sahara negotiation process, under the aegis of the United Nations, stressing it was time to reach a solution ensuring Saharawi people's right to self-determination, a source said Sunday.
The motion, approved on March 9th in a plenary session at the Portuguese Parliament, "welcomed the resumption of the negotiation process in (occupied) Western Sahara under the aegis of the United Nations.
It "expressed a deep conviction that it is time to reach a solution ensuring Western Sahara people's self-determination," Portuguese media reported.
The vote was presented by the parliamentary group of the Left Bloc and passed by the votes of the Socialist Party (PS), the Portuguese Communist Party (PCP), the Green Party and the People-Animals-Nature (PAN).
The vote came within the framework of the UN Security Council's resolutions providing for Western Sahara people's right to self-determination and independence. (SPS)
