Shaheed El-Hafed (Refugee Camps), January 6, 2018 (SPS) - The Polisario Front reiterated on Thursday its willingness to cooperate with the efforts of the United Nations for the decolonization of Western Sahara and the application of the provisions of the peace plan of the African Union-United Nations of 1991 aimed at organizing the referendum on self-determination so that the Saharawi people can decide their own future.
In a meeting under the chairmanship of the President of the Republic, Secretary-General of the Polisario Front, Brahim Ghali, the Permanent Bureau of the National Secretariat of the Polisario Front stressed the responsibility of the United Nations in the application of its Charter and its resolutions, in particular resolution 1514, on the granting of independence to colonial peoples and countries.
The Polisario Front highlighted that all the causes of tension and escalation were due to the invasion and illegal occupation of Western Sahara by the Kingdom of Morocco and its flagrant violation of the ceasefire agreement and Military Agreement no. 1 and its frequent disregard for the resolutions of international legitimacy, including the recent resolution 2153 of the UN Security Council.
It called on the Kingdom of Morocco to resort to international legitimacy and comply with the implementation of the Constitutive Act of the African Union and open a new page of coexistence in peace, cooperation and good neighborliness with the Saharawi Republic.
The Permanent Bureau underlined that the year of 2017 was a year of notable diplomatic victories, consolidation of the place of the Saharawi state in the African Union, opened more horizons in the battle of our people to protect their natural resources and defend their rights for freedom and independence.
