Ould Salek welcomes SADR participation in AU-EU Summit in Abidjan

Abidjan, Nov 27, 2017 (SPS) -  Sahrawi Foreign Minister Mohamed-Salem Ould-Salek welcomed Monday in Abidjan the participation of the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic (SADR) at the African Union-European Union Summit (AU-EU), scheduled for Wednesday and Thursday in Abidjan.

The "SADR welcomes its participation in the Summit, which will be a success at all levels," Ould Salek said in a statement to the press, adding that "through its participation in international meetings, SADR is undoubtedly moving towards independence and the fulfillment of the aspirations of its people."

The SADR participation in the AU-EU Summit represents "an evidence that the Sahrawi Republic is a continental and international reality," stressing the "struggle and the sacrifices of the Sahrawi people for presence in the major African and international fora."

"Today, after over 42 years of the invasion of Western Sahara, Morocco participates alongside SADR in this Summit. Thus, it is imperative that Morocco realizes that turning one's back on reality is no longer possible. It rather has to recognize the SADR,” added the Sahrawi FM.

Ould Salek underlined that peace in North West Africa "requires from Morocco to recognize the SADR and respect the international borders," stressing that the Abidjan summit "will come to the conclusion that the European Union is set to contribute to establishing peace in the region and that cooperation with the EU is based on respect for international borders."

Morocco's position "remains an obstacle to the peace and stability (establishment) process in the region, at a time when the AU, the United Nations and the EU are combining their efforts in consolidating peace on the basis of respect for international borders, that take into account the respect, sovereignty and historical rights of the choice of the Sahrawi people," he concluded.
