Shaheed El-Hafed, Oct 9, 2017 (SPS) - The members of the high-level delegation from the Canary Islands, who are on a visit to Sahrawi refugee camps, organized Sunday a sit-in in solidarity with the Saharawi political prisoners in Moroccan jails, at the headquarters of the national television, in the presence of the staff members and executives of the Ministry of Information.
The participants called for the "immediate and unconditional" release of all Saharawi political prisoners and condemned the arbitrary deportation of the prisoners of Gdeim Izik group without prior notice to various Moroccan prisons, located thousands of kilometers away from their families.
The delegation from the Canary Islands consists of parliamentary personalities from different political groups, representatives of the government of the Canary Islands and solidarity movements in the region, including the President of the Federation of Solidarity Institutions with the Saharawi People (FEDISA), Carmelo Ramirez, as well as the Dean of the University of Laguna.
It also includes representatives of political parties, associations, municipalities and civil society. The visit, which lasted a few days, aimed to examine closely the humanitarian situation of the Saharawi refugees and to express their solidarity with the Saharawi people and their just cause.
The delegation will hold several meetings with senior officials of the Saharawi government and Polisario Front. (SPS)
