Marrakesh (Morocco) , June 23, 2017 (SPS) - The court of appeal of the Moroccan city of Marrakesh decided Thursday to postpone the trial of the Saharawi students until July 6, after their appearance in the court.
The Sahrawi students entered the courtroom wearing the Sahrawi national dress, Daraa, and chanted slogans calling for the self-determination and independence of the Saharawi people.
During his intervention, Saharawi student Salek Babir, affirmed the political nature of their arrest as a result of their activism in the Moroccan universities in favor of the self-determination and independence of the Saharawi people.
The Saharawi activist clarified that the detention, torture and ill-treatment that they suffered are a sign that Morocco does not respect the international law and legislation, denouncing, at the same time, the propaganda campaign launched by the occupation authorities against members of the group.
After the intervention of Salek Babir, the Moroccan court decided to postpone the trial of the Sahrawi students without giving legal explanations.
In the course of the trial, the Moroccan police forces surrounded the court and prevented the relatives of the prisoners from accessing them. (SPS)
