Expulsion of MINUSRO members, threat on regional security

Addis Ababa (Ethiopia), October 27, 2016 (SPS) - The African Union Peace and Security Council (PSC) affirmed that the expulsion of members of the United Nations Mission for the self-determination referendum in Western Sahara (MINURSO) "is an approach that threatens regional peace, hinders regional and international efforts, and freezes the peace process."
At an annual meeting, held Tuesday by the AU Peace and Security Council in Addis Ababa, on the assessment of the African peace missions actions, Ambassador Yilma Tadesse, AU representative with the MINURSO, presented the latest developments of the Sahrawi cause and the AU efforts as part Western Sahara conflict settlement process.
Particular emphasis was placed on the evaluation of MINURSO operation, frozen since last March following the expulsion by Morocco of its civilian component.March following the expulsion by Morocco of its civilian component. (SPS)
