National Secretariat declares state of emergency, calls on Sahrawi people to be mobilized and vigilant

Shaheed Al-Hafed, 8 November 2020 (SPS) - The National Secretariat of the Polisario Front declared on Saturday a state of emergency, calling on the Sahrawi people to be at the highest levels of vigilance and mobilization to face up to all eventualities, in a statement that culminated an extraordinary meeting held by the National Secretariat of the Polisario Front, chaired by President of the Republic, Secretary General of the Polisario Front, Mr. Brahim Ghali.

UN Fourth Committee adopts a resolution reaffirming the responsibility of the United Nations towards the people of Western Sahara

New York (United Nations) 7 November 2020 (SPS)- The Seventy-fifth session of the Special Political and Decolonisation Committee (Fourth Committee) of the UN General Assembly adopted a resolution on the question of Western Sahara, yesterday, without a vote, under agenda item 61 concerning the Implementation of the Declaration on the Granting of Independence to Colonial Countries and Peoples, reaffirming the UN responsibility towards the Saharawi people.

Sahrawi ambassador presents a copy of his credentials to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of South Africa

Pretoria (South Africa), Nov 04, 2020 (SPS) - The new ambassador of the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic to the Republic of South Africa, Mohamed Yeslem Beissat, has presented a copy of his credentials to the Director General of State Protocol of the brother African country, Ambassador Nonceba Losi.
At the ceremony, the South African representative welcomed the new SADR ambassador, to whom she reiterated her country's firm support for the just Sahrawi struggle against colonialism and for the total independence of the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic.

New York (United Nations) 04 November 2020 (SPS)- Algeria's permanent representative to the United Nations, Mr. Sofiane Mimouni, reiterated Algeria's consistent position in favour of Western Sahara people's inalienable right to self-determination in line with the international legality, warning against any unfair approach to the solution that may jeopardize UN previous efforts to resolve this case of decolonisation.

Germany calls for urgent appointment of new UN envoy

Berlin, 2 November 2020 (SPS) - German Minister of State for Europe Michael Roth expressed the German government's regret over the status quo marking the conflict in Western Sahara.
Answering a question of Heik Hansel, a member of the Bundestag from the radical left party "Die Linke" on the Sahrawi conflict, Michael Roth said that the vacancy of the post of the UN Special Envoy for Western Sahara undermines the universally recognized successes of former special envoy, German Horst Koehler.

CNASPS disappointed at lack of will by Security Council

Algiers, 2 November 2020 (SPS) - The members of the Algerian National Committee for Solidarity with the Saharawi People (CNASPS) noted, with a "deep disappointment, the lack of will on the part of the UN Security Council" to find, in a concrete and urgent way, a just, equitable solution, in line with the international law, to Western Sahara conflict, and to quickly activate the UN Mission for the Referendum in Western Sahara (MINURSO) in terms of the organization of a referendum on self-determination, the committee said Monday in a statement.
