Bachelet wants to dispatch new mission to Western Sahara

Geneva (United Nations), 14 September 2020 (SPS) - UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Michelle Bachelet said Monday, in Geneva, that she "look forward to discussing" the parameters of a new technical mission to Western Sahara in order to "identify critical human rights issues" in the territory.
"Such missions are vital to identify critical human rights issues," and contribute to "preventing the escalation of grievances," in occupied Western Sahara, said the UN Human Rights Chief at the opening of the 45th session of the HRC in Geneva.

UN must set date for self-determination referendum in occupied Western Sahara

Geneva, 12 September 2020 (SPS) - The Polisario Front declared on Thursday in Geneva that the referendum on self-determination in occupied Western Sahara was urgently needed, calling on the UN General Assembly to set a date for the holding of this vote, which has so far been adjourned.

New York (United Nations), 7 September 2020 (SPS) - The Polisario Front said Sunday it expects "concrete actions" from the United Nations that demonstrate the willingness of the UN to hold a referendum on self-determination in occupied Western Sahara, pointing to the inaction of the Security Council and the General Secretariat.

AI calls on Morocco to drop "fabricated charges" against Sahrawi journalist Brahim Imrikli

Washington, 06 September 2020 (SPS) - Amnesty International on Friday demanded that the Moroccan occupation authorities drop the immediately charges, which it described as "fabricated," against young Sahrawi journalist, Brahim Imrikli.
Brahim Imrikli, 23, is a video journalist affiliated with the Activists Foundation and will be tried next Monday in the occupied city of El-Aaiun for reasons related to his journalistic work, the international organization said on its Twitter page.
