Covid-19: Campaign to save lives of Sahrawi political prisoners in Morocco

Any solution to Western Sahara conflict must respect people’s right to self-determination

New York (United Nations), 12 April 2020 (SPS) – Russia reaffirmed, in the Security Council meeting, that any solution to the conflict in Western Sahara must respect the Sahrawi people’s right to self-determination and the UN Charter.
The Russian mission to the UN stressed, in a tweet on its official account after the Thursday meeting of the UN Security Council on Western Sahara, that any solution to this conflict must respect the right of the Sahrawi people to self-determination and the United Nations Charter.

AWSA calls for intervention of UN for release of Sahrawi political prisoners

Sydney, 11 April 2020 (SPS) -   the Australia Western Sahara Association (AWSA) has sought the intervention of the United Nations with the Moroccan authorities for the release of Saharawi political prisoners, recalling they are being one of the groups most at risk of infection with Covid19, in a message to United Nations Secretary General, Mr. Antonio Guterres.

Brussels, 11 April 2020 - President of the Belgian Support Committee for the Sahrawi people, Pierre Galand, has called on the authorities of his country to intervene with Morocco for the release of Sahrawi political prisoners,
Pierre Galand, also president of the European Conference of Support and Solidarity with the Sahrawi people (EUCOCO), in a letter sent Friday to the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Defense of the Kingdom of Belgium, Philippe Goffin, called for the immediate release of the Sahrawi political prisoners jailed in Moroccan prisons.

Saharawi Government suspends 2020 Peace Vacations Program due to COVID 19 spread in the world

Chahid El Hafed , April 07, 2020 (SPS) -. The Saharawi National Commission that oversees Holidays in Peace announced on Monday the suspension of the program for the summer of 2020.
The commission, in a statement, which SPS obtained a copy of it, "reported that it had decided to suspend the Vacations in Peace Program for the summer of 2020 due to the circumstance that the world is experiencing as a result of the spread of the COVD 19 pandemic.

Security Council's meeting on Minurso Thursday, Polisario reiterates position on the process

New York, 6 April 2020 (SPS) - Polisario Front representative at the United Nations, Dr. Sidi Mohamed Omar, on Monday indicated that the Security Council meeting scheduled for Thursday on developments in Western Sahara should be an opportunity for its members to address several issues, including the delay in the appointment of a new UN envoy and mechanisms for responding to the opening of consulates in the occupied Sahrawi territories.

President of Republic receives message of condolence from Mauritanian RFD Party

Nouakchott, 5 April 2020 (SPS) -  The Mauritanian political party, Rally of Democratic Forces (RFD) has expressed condolences to the Sahrawi people and the family of the deceased leader, Emhamed Khaddad, who died on Wednesday after a long illness.
"We received with great sadness and sorrow the news of the passing of the great late Emhamed Khaddad Moussa," said the Mauritanian party in a message of condolence addressed to President of the Republic, Secretary-General of the Polisario Front, Mr. Brahim Ghali.
