Moroccan forces suppress demonstrations in El-Aaiun and Boujdour

El-Aaiun, Sep 30, 2017 (SPS) - The Moroccan forces intervened violently on Wednesday and Thursday against Saharawi demonstrators in the occupied cities of El-Aaiun and Boujdour.
According to Saharawi human rights sources, the Moroccan forces brutally repressed the demonstrations. The police intervention caused many injuries, several of them were serious.
The peaceful demonstrations were organised to express support and solidarity with Saharawi political prisoners in Moroccan prisons and to demand their release. (SPS)

"On behalf of the Sahrawi people and Government, I would like to express my sincere congratulations on the anniversary of the Independence Day of the Republic of Botswana. I wish the brotherly people of Botswana success and prosperity," said the President of the Republic.

Polisario Front's founder member Baba Mustapha Ould Sayed passes away

Shaheed El-Hafed, Sep 30, 2017 (SPS) - Baba Mustapha Ould Sayed, one of the Polisario Front's founding members, has died at the age of 61 following a long illness.
Ould Sayed started his career as a political activist in a young age, within the Youth Union of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Saguia el-Hamra and Rio del Oro (Polisario), in which he was responsible for external relations.
He was mainly the Polisario front's representative in France, Switzerland (Geneva) and Canada.

Situation and political of Sahrawi people, theme of photo exhibition in Copenhagen

Copenhagen,  Sept 28, 2017 (SPS) - “The Sahrawi people are awaiting” is the theme of a photo exhibition held in Copenhagen (Denmark) on the situation of the Sahrawi people in refugee camps and their political activism for self-determination and independence for more than four decades.
Inaugurated Monday, the exhibition is organized by the Danish association for African solidarity “Afrika kontakt”, in collaboration with the Cultural Centre Verdenskulturcentret, said the Frente POLISARIO representation in Copenhagen.

Moroccan police brutal intervention against Saharawi activist Fatimeu Chahid protest

Aaiun (Occupied Territories), Sept 27, 2017 (SPS) - Several Moroccan police units intervened on Tuesday against the peaceful protest carried out by the Saharawi activist, Fatimetu Chahid, in front of one of the administrations of the Moroccan occupation in the Aaiun.
 
The human rights activist was surprised by the intervention of plainclothes policemen led by the torturer Kaia, to interrupt her protests and forcibly driving her out of the building, as well as insulting and intimidating her.
 

Moroccan repression forces arrest two Saharawi students in occupied city of Smara

Smara (Occupied Territories), Sept 27, 2017 (SPS) - Saharawi students Abba Cheij Abba Haj and Ali Salem Bumehdi were arrested by Moroccan repression forces in the occupied city of Smara on the ground of f their participation in a peaceful rally, before the Islamic Science Center in Smara, Occupied Territories.
 
The Saharawi students were cruelly treated and later transferred in a car belonging to the Moroccan Police, to investigate their participation in the peaceful concentration.
 

Saharawi student and political prisoner health situation El Uafi El Uakari deteriorates

Marrakech (Morocco), Sept 26, 2017 (SPS) - the health status of Saharawi student and political prisoner Uafi El Uakari has gravely deteriorated, who is imprisoned in the Moroccan prison of Ludaia in Marrakesh, According to sources of human rights activists.
The worsening health of the political prisoner is a consequence of the open hunger strikes that he began with his colleagues, to protest against his arbitrary detention and the terrible conditions inside the prison.

East Timor calls for organization of self-determination referendum in Western Sahara

New York, Sep 25, 2017 (SPS) - East Timor called Monday on the United Nations to urgently organise the self-determination referendum in Western Sahara.
In his address to the United Nations General Assembly, The new Permanent Representative of Timor-Leste to the United Nations, Ms. Maria Helena Pires, called for the exercise by of the people of Western Sahara to their right to self-determination.
She also called for dialogue between the Kingdom of Morocco and the legitimate representative of the Saharawi people, the Polisario Front. (SPS)

Angola calls for implementation of UN, AU resolutions on Western Sahara

New York, Sep 25, 2017 (SPS) - Angola has called for ensuring the application of the United Nations and African Union resolution on the issue of Western Sahara.
During the General Debate of the 72nd session of the UN General Assembly, Angola's Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Mr. Ismael Abraão Gaspar Martins, called for the effective implementation of the resolutions of the Security Council and the African Union concerning the Saharawi question.

Mozambique regrets lack of progress in decolonization of Western Sahara

New York (UN), Sep 25, 2017 (SPS) - Mozambique lamented Monday in the General Assembly the lack of progress in the decolonization of Western Sahara.
During the General Debate of the 72nd session of the UN General Assembly, António Gumende, Permanent Representative of the Republic of Mozambique to the United Nations, emphasized that the lack of progress in the decolonization of Western Sahara remains a serious concern for Mozambique.

EU, AU agree upon "renaming" their next meeting EU-AU Summit

Brussels, Sep 25, 2017 (SPS) -The European Union (EU) and the African Union (AU) agreed upon "renaming" their summit between Europeans and Africans scheduled for 29-30 November in Abidjan (Ivory Coast), the EU-AU summit, Algeria's ambassador Amar Belani said Sunday in Brussels.
"The AU and the EU agreed upon renaming their next meeting +EU-AU Summit+," which is expected to take place on 29-30 November 2017 in Abidjan, named in the previous editions EU-Africa Summit," Belani told APS.

President of Republic congratulates his Malian counterpart on Independence Day

Bir-Lehlou, Sep 23, 2017 (SPS)-  President of the Republic, Secretary-General of the Polisario Front, Brahim Ghali, congratulated his Malian counterpart, Brahim Boubaker Kaita, on the occasion of the 57th anniversary of the independence of the Republic of Mali.
The President of the Republic expressed his sincere congratulations to the president of the Republic of Mali on this occasion, recalling the relations of friendship and solidarity existing between the two sisterly countries.
