Venezuela renews its strong support for Saharawi people right to sovereignty and self-determination

Caracas (Venezuela), August,  31 2017 (SPS) - The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela has renewed Venezuela's strong support for the right of the Saharawi people to sovereignty and self-determination, according to a letter received by the Sahrawi Minister of Foreign Affairs,  Mohamed Salem Ould Salek from his Venezuelan counterpart in response to a congratulatory message on the occasion of his appointment as Minister of Foreign Affairs of Venezuela.
 

Activist Aminatou Haidar calls for protection of Western Sahara people, self-determination referendum

Algiers, August 31, 2017 (SPS) - Saharawi human rights activist Aminatou Haidar called Wednesday, in Algiers, for protection of Western Sahara people and speeding up the organization of a self-determination referendum, to find a definitive solution to the Saharawi conflict.
Haidar, in an interview with APS, said the violations of Saharawi people's human rights by Moroccan occupation authorities "will continue, at all levels, as long as Western Sahara conflict is not settled."

Western Sahara people wishes Guetteres efforts be along same lines as Ban ki-moon's

Algiers, August 30, 2017 (SPS) - Saharawi people wishes that the efforts of UN secretary general Antonio Guterres for the settlement of Western Sahara issue be along the same lines as those of his predecessor, Ban Ki-moon, who tried to revive the self-determination process, Saharawi journalist Hamma Mehdi said.
Hamma Mehdi told APS that Ban Ki-moon tried to revive the self-determination process, adding that the efforts of his personal envoy, Christopher Ross, contributed to this move, in spite of Morocco's attempts to divert UN attention.

International Women March calls for an accelerated end to the occupation of Western Sahara

Maputo (Mozambique), August 29, 2017 (SPS) - The International March for Women called on the international community and the African Union to act as soon as possible to end the illegal Moroccan occupation of party of the Sahrawi Republic.
The International Women's March said in a statement that what happened in Maputo during the summit of the partnership between the African Union and Japan on August 23 and 24, and the conduct of the Moroccan delegation is irresponsible and contrary to the decisions and principles of the African Union.

Brazil Central of Workers reaffirms its support to Saharawi people struggle

Brazil, August 29, 2017 (SPS) - The Workers' Confederation of Brazil (CTB), has approved in its fourth congress meeting in the city of Salvador de Bahia held between August 24 to 27, 2017, a motion to support the Struggle of the Saharawi people for self-determination and independence.

President of Republic, Supreme Commander of Armed Forces chairs meeting of SPLA General Staff

Emheirez (Liberated Zones), August 28, 2017 (SPS) - President of the Republic, Secretary-General of the Polisario Front, Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, Brahim Ghali, chaired Monday a meeting of the General Staff of the Sahrawi People's Liberation Army (SPLA) in the fourth military regiment.
According to the agenda, the meeting addresses several issues, including the security situation, calendar of the annual program of the Ministry of National Defense, developments of the national issue and review of the work of the committees.

Members of delegation from occupied territories beaten, one of them arrested by Moroccan authorities

El-Aaiun (Occupied Territories), August 27, 2017 (SPS) - The Moroccan authorities on Saturday to intervened violently against members of the delegation of the occupied territories at the airport of the occupied city of El-Aaiun, following their participating in Algiers in the works of the 8th edition of the Summer University of the Sahrawi  State Executives.
Some members of the delegation were beaten by the Moroccan occupation forces.

M'barak Daudi starts hunger strike in protest of assault on his family

Bouzakarn (Morocco), 27 August 2017 (SPS) - Saharawi political prisoner M'barak Daudi initiated Saturday a hunger strike of 48 hours in his cell at the local prison in Bouzakarn, Morocco, in protest of a physical assault on his family.
The 62-year-old Saharawi political prisoner carried out this hunger strike despite his deteriorated health situation. Daudi had been transferred several times to health centers due to his critical health situation.

Aminatou Haidar advocates UN mechanism to monitor violations of Sahrawis' human rights by Morocco

Algiers, August 27, 2017 (SPS) - Sahrawi human rights activist Aminatou Haidar advocated on Saturday in Algiers the setting up of a United Nations mechanism to monitor the violations of Sahrawi's human rights by Morocco, especially as the MINURSO" is powerless in the face of these violations."
She also hoped that the new UN Personal Envoy gave a new impetus to the peace process.

In this context, the council approved calendars of various programmes for the new school year (schools, institutes and training centers), the agricultural season and upcoming cultural activities.

Moroccan authorities intervene violently against Sahrawi citizens on coast of Afim El Wad

El Aaiun (Occupied Territories),  August 27, 2017 (SPS) - Moroccan forces on Friday raided dozens of Sahrawi tents on the coast of Afim El Wad, 25 kilometers west to the occupied city of El Aaiun, which left many of injuries among Sahrawi citizens.
The events started on Friday night when dozens of members of Moroccan forces surrounded the tents of Sahrawi citizens erected on the beach, removing and confiscating them, and chasing their owners, which left many injuries among them. (SPS)

AU demands from Morocco to respect pan-African organization as unified block
