ANC regrets Morocco’s return to the African Union fold

Pretoria, January 31, 2017 (SPS) – The African National Congress (ANC) expressed on Tuesday its regrets over the African Union’s (AU’s) decision to readmit Morocco into the organization, which represents an "important setback for the cause of the Saharawi people"
In a statement from the ruling party, which was sent to the media this morning, stressed that the vote at the 28th AU Summit in favor of the Morocco's return to the AU  bloc is against the search for self-determination and independence in the Western Sahara

Morocco must fully adhere to the word and spirit of AU Constitutive Act (Abdelkader Messahel)

Addis Ababa (Ethiopia), January 31, 2017 (SPS) – regarding the readmission of Morocco into the AU, "there are criteria for the membership in the AU. The Union’s Constitutive Act is very clear about this matter," stressing that Morocco "must fully adhere to the word and spirit of this Constitutive Act." said Monday in Addis-Ababa, Minister for Maghreb Affairs, African Union and Arab League Abdelkader Messahel.
 

SADR ready to negotiate with Morocco to end occupation

Addis-Ababa, January 31, 2017 (SPS) – The Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic (SADR) is ready to negotiate with Morocco to end the occupation of the Sahrawi territories, Sahrawi Foreign Minister Mohamed Salem Ould Salek said Monday in Addis-Ababa.
 

Morocco becomes 55th member of AU

Addis Ababa, January 31, 2017 (SPS) – Morocco has been admitted to the African Union as its 55th member state on Monday during the works of the 28th AU Summit in the Ethiopian capital, Addis Ababa.
Morocco left the Organization of Africa Unity (OAU), current AU, to protest against the admission of the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic (SADR) as a full member of the AU.

Chadian Moussa Faki Mahamat elected as chairman of AU Commission

Addis Ababa (Ethiopia),  January 30, 2017 (SPS) –  Chadian Moussa Faki Mahamat was elected Monday, in Addis Ababa (Ethiopia), as chairman of the African Union Commission during the works of the 28th Conference of Heads of State and Government of the African Union, taking place in the Ethiopian capital.
 
Mahamat succeeds to South African Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma, who was the chairperson of the AU strategic body since 2012, and who did not wish to run for a second mandate.
 

President of the Republic condemns human rights serious violations in OO TT

Addis Ababa (Ethiopia), January 30, 2017 (SPS) – The President of the Republic, Secretary General of the Frente POLISARIO, Brahim Gali on Sunday condemned the serious violations of human rights in the Occupied Territories, stressing that "the time has come to organize the self-determination referendum in Western Sahara, regretting that MINURSO is the only UN mission that does not have competencies for the control and observance of human rights.
 

28th African Union Summit opens in Addis Ababa

Addis Ababa, January 30, 2017 (SPS) – The proceedings of the 28th African Union Summit opened Monday in the Ethiopian capital, Addis-Ababa, under the sign: "Harnessing the Demographic Dividend through Investments in Youth."
President of the African Union (AU) Commission, Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma, has officially inaugurated the African Union (AU) Summit at the organization's headquarters in the capital, according to Latina news agency.

President of Republic from Addis Ababa: It's time to organize a self-determination referendum in Western Sahara.

(SPS) - The President of the Republic, Secretary General of the Frente POLISARIO, Mr. Brahim Gali, said on Sunday in Addis Ababa that the time has come to organize a referendum on self-determination in Western Sahara, adding that the UN mission in Western Sahara MINURSO is the only mission that does not include the functions of human rights watch.

Ould Salek: AU Summit to replace Morocco in its geographic, legal dimensions

Addis Ababa, January 28, 2017 (SPS) - Sahrawi Foreign Affairs Mohamed Salem Ould Salek stressed Friday the current Summit of Heads of state and government of the African Union (AU) would replace Morocco in front of its historical and legal responsibilities, a power that illegally occupies a member country of the AU, recalling Morocco is the only country in Africa which does not respect its internationally recognized borders.

Addis Ababa (Ethiopia), January 28, 2017 (SPS) - Saharawi Foreign Minister Mohamed Salem Ould Salek has assured Friday that there is no doubt that the AU will reaffirm its position on the Saharawi issue at the Addis Ababa summit.
The Sahrawi Foreign Minister reminds Morocco that the occupation of the Saharawi territory is incompatible with the Charter and the objectives of the African Union it intends to unite.

Sahrawi Diaspora in Belgium protest against “illegal” shipment of marine oil

Gand (Belgium), January 27, 2017 (SPS) -The Sahrawi Diaspora in Belgium organized a protest rally at the port of Gand (northwest of Brussels) where the key Bay ship docked after unloading at the port of Fecamp (France) marine oil imported “illegally” from Western Sahara.
The participants in the rally chanted slogans denouncing the “plundering” of Western Sahara’s natural resources and carried banners demanding the respect of the principle of permanent sovereignty of peoples on their natural resources.

Prime Minister receives new UNHCR Office Head

Chahid El Hafed, January 26, 2017 (SPS) - The member of the POLISARIO National Secretariat and Prime Minister, Abdelkader Taleb Omar, received the new Head of the Office of the High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) Mohammed Hussein in the presence of the President of the Sahrawi Red Crescent Buhubeini Yahia Buhubeini.
In a statement to the national media, Mohamed Hussain stated that the "High Commissioner will continue to support the Saharawi refugees and will do everything possible to alleviate their suffering and meet their needs."

FM heads a Saharawi delegation at 30 UA Executive Council session

Saharawi ambassador in Addis Ababa welcomes African states' position based on AU principles
