United Nations approves US$60.8 million budget to finance MINURSO

New York, June 29, 2012 (SPS) - The United Nations General Assembly has approved a budget of US$60.8 million to finance the UN Mission for the Referendum in Western Sahara, known as MINURSO, for the period from 1 July 2012 to 30 June 2013.


The budget includes US$58.2 million for the maintenance of MINURSO and US$2.4 million for the support account for peacekeeping operations, and US$131,700 dollars for the United Nations Logistics Base at Brindisi, in Italy.


The UN General Assembly also approved a budget of more than US$7 billion for the period running from 1 July 2012 to 30 June 2013 to finance 14 UN peacekeeping operations and UN special political missions, namely the African Union-United Nations Hybrid Operation in Darfur (UNAMID) as well as the UN missions in South Sudan, Chad, the Democratic Republic of Congo, the Central African Republic, Cote d’Ivoire, Ethiopia and Eritrea.
