President of Republic draws attention of OHCHR to deteriorating situation of human rights in occupied territories

Bir Lehlu (liberated territories) , Spt 13, 2012 (SPS) - The President of the Republic and Secretary General of the Polisario Front, Mr. Mohamed Abdelaziz, described the decision of the Moroccan occupation to subject 23 Saharawi Political prisoners to military trial as“unjust and contradicts the international law”, in letter to the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights(OHCHR) and African Union Commission.

 

The President considered in his letter that the Moroccan decision is a return to the regimes of oppression in middle ages.

 

“These serious developments demonstrate clear and blatant disregard by the Moroccan government to the international legitimacy and the values ​​and ideals of humanity” said the President.

 

President Mohamed Abdelaziz underlined that "this case represents a traumatic example of a longstanding suffering and persecution imposed by the Moroccan occupation authorities on the Saharawi people in general, and political prisoners and human rights activists, especially"

 

“The Moroccan authorities of occupation insist on maintaining its colonial policies in Western Sahara against all the requirements of the international law” adds the President Mohamed Abdelaziz in his letter to OHCHR and AU Commission.

Secretary General of the Frente Polisario reiterated call for UN mechanism enables MINORSO of its essential task which is organizing referendum on self-determination for the Saharawi people  .

 

He appealed for exerting the necessary pressure and sanctions on the Moroccan occupation authorities to abide by the international legitimacy.

 

Finally, President of the Republic called on OHCHR and the AU Commission to immediately intervene to release the Saharawi political prisoners in Salé and other Moroccan jails. (SPS)
