New book about Saharawi poetry published in London

London, May 13, 2015 (SPS) - Influx Press has announced the publication of a new book about Saharawi poetry under the title: “Settled Wanderers” by the UK poet Sam Berkson and Saharawi writer Mohamed Sulaiman.


In a ceremony organized in London on Tuesday, author of the book Sam Berkson delivered some poems translated into English for prominent Saharawi poets, including of which “Draimiza” by poet Beibuh Ould Al-Hajj, “Tachwach” by Badi Momahed and “Gdeim Izik” by Husein Maulud.


Attending the 4-hour event, Polisario Front’s Representative to the UK Mr. Mohamed Limam Mohamed Ali said the book constitutes a “qualitative addition” to the efforts being made to document culture and struggle of the Saharawi people.


Also present at the event was the young Saharawi man Brahim Bahiya, from Saharawi Voice Group, who talked a bite about the conditions experienced by Saharawi youth in the refugee camps.


He also highlighted the frustration prevailed among Saharawi young people at the ongoing impasse and the Security Council’s repeated rejection to extend the mandate of the UN Mission for the Referendum in Western Sahara (MINURSO) to include human rights.


For his part, the Executive Director of War on Want, John Hilary, who was member of 1st UK fact-finding mission to the occupied Western Sahara, also spoke about the reality experienced by Saharawi activists in the occupied territory of Western Sahara.


The book is made up of 224 pages and includes poems translated into English for prominent Saharawi poets.


This unprecedented literary work aims at conveying to English speaking people the unique culture and reality of the people of Western Sahara. (SPS)
