AU Peace and Security Council condemns Morocco's illegal exploitation of Western Sahara natural resources

Submitted on

ADDIS ABABA, February 18, 2016 (SPS) - The African Union Peace and Security Council has condemned the illegal exploitation of the natural resources of Western Sahara, which is occupied by Morocco.

During its 575th meeting, held recently in Addis Ababa, and in a session devoted to "natural resources and conflicts in Africa," the AU Peace and Security Council has condemned the illegal exploitation of the natural resources of Western Sahara, considering it as a "hostile act that would perpetuate the conflict and establish Morocco's colonization of the territory,"

The Council also reiterated the related resolutions of the United Nations and the AU, particularly the resolution adopted by the 25th session of the AU Summit and called on the UN Security Council to assume its responsibilities and find solutions to issues relating to human rights protection and the illegal exploitation of Western Sahara resources.
