Guterres preoccupied about "deterioration" of situation in Western Sahara

New York (United Nations), 3 September 2021 (SPS) – UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres said he was "deeply concerned" by the sharp "deterioration" of the situation in occupied Western Sahara, describing the resumption of hostilities between Morocco and the Polisario Front as a "major setback" for efforts to find a "peaceful, lasting and mutually acceptable solution to the Saharawi conflict".

New Head of MINURSO holds first briefing in October

New York (United Nations), 2 October 2021 (SPS) –The new Special Representative for Western Sahara and head of the United Nations Mission for the Referendum in Western Sahara (MINURSO), Alexander Ivanko of Russia, will hold this month his first briefing on the future of the UN mission whose mandate expires on 31 October.

SADR welcomes annulment of EU-Morocco agreements over Western Sahara by the ECJ

The Sahrawi Republic and the Frente POLISARIO noted with satisfaction the judgement of the European Court of Justice, which ruled that the agreements concluded by the European Union with the Kingdom of Morocco were invalid because they illegally included the territory and the territorial waters and wealth of the Sahrawi Republic.

Ould Salek discusses developments in the Sahrawi cause with his Cuban counterpart

New York (United Nations), Sept 29, 2021 (SPS) - The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mohamed Salem Ould Salek, reviewed with his Cuban counterpart the latest developments in the Sahrawi cause and the responsibility of the international community towards the Saharawi people.

Discussions took place at the headquarters of the United Nations (UN) on the sidelines of the work of the 76th session of the General Assembly (GA).
