London, 25 October 2021 (SPS) - The United Kingdom has considered the status of Western Sahara as “undefined,” said British Minister of State for Middle East and North Africa at the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office, James Cleverly, reiterating his country’s support to UN resolutions regarding the status of this non-self-governing territory.
"As stated by the Foreign Secretary on 11 December 2020 (and as mentioned in previous responses), the UK considers the status of Western Sahara to be undefined," said James Cleverly, in response to a question from the Labour Party MP for Liverpool Riverside, Kim Johnson.
"We note the UN's position on the status of Western Sahara which is available on its website," he added.
The Labour MP questioned James Cleverly on whether the British government supported the UN's position that Western Sahara is a non-self-governing territory.
Last May, James Cleverly, reiterated the UK's support for the UN-led efforts to achieve a just and lasting political solution that provides for the self-determination of the Sahrawi people.
