South African political parties denounce Morocco ceasefire violation

Pretoria, 21 November 2020 (SPS) - The coalition of the major political parties in South Africa on Friday staged a demonstration outside the Moroccan embassy in Pretoria to denounce Morocco’s violation of the ceasefire agreement in Western Sahara.

In a statement issued on the occasion, the South African political forces expressed support to the right for freedom and independence of the Saharawi people.

The statement urged the international community to put an end to the suffering of the Saharawi people.

In the absence of confidence on the UN efforts, said the statement, the Saharawi people has the right to resistance by all legitimate means including armed struggle.

The participants also called on the UN body to complete the process of decolonization in Africa, by finding a just solution leading for self-determination of the people of Western Sahara.

On relevant context, Saharawi ambassador Mr. Mohamed Yeslem Beisat praised, after presenting his credentials to President Ramaphosa, South Africa’s firm position of support to the Saharawi people.

The act was organized by the African National Congress (ANC), Communist Party and African Trade Union Congress. (SPS)
