15th Congress: Self-determination referendum guarantee of peace, security in region

Tifariti (Liberated Territories), 22 December 2019 (SPS) - The participants in 15th Congress of the Polisario Front "Shaheed El-Boukhari Ahmed," whose works resumed Saturday behind closed doors in Tifariti, said peace and security in the region cannot be achieved without a guarantee of Western Sahara people's just and inalienable right to self-determination, through the organization of a referendum.
On the third day of the crucial meeting about the Saharawi cause, to run until December 23, the congress participants will create working committees for the development of the final plans relating to the organization of the Congress, organizers said.
The committee on the Special Status will present its work plan before the approval of the different articles suggested for reform, in addition to the Constitution's reform project, the set-up of a committee for the election of the Polisario Front's secretary general, who will also hold the position of president of the Saharawi Arab Democratic Republic (SADR).
In an opening address, the president of the Republic, Secretary General of the Polisario Front, Brahim Ghali, said Sahrawi people will not accept new procrastinations or the prolongation of Moroccan occupation.
While presenting the report of the Polisario Front's National Secretariat, Brahim Ghali said Saharawi people, "who support their legitimate and only representative" the Polisario Front, cannot accept more postponements and will not accept the prolongation of the occupation."
In his speech, the head of the State said that for about thirty years, the Polisario Front has been making concessions to create the required atmosphere of trust between the parties to the conflict, namely the Polisario Front and the Kingdom of Morocco.
"We renew our unwavering willingness to cooperate, in a constructive manner, with the efforts for the decolonization of the last colony in Africa." (SPS)
