Gaborone (Botswana) 09 October 2019 (SPS)- The Russian Embassy in Botswana, indicated in a news story on its website that Russian Ambassador to Botswana, Dr. Victor Ivanovich Sibilev, received the Sahrawi ambassador accredited to Botswana, Malainin Mohamed, early September and was debriefed on several issues related to the situation in Western Sahara.
The Sahrawi ambassador seized the opportunity of a Courtesy visit to his Russian counterpart, who is also the Dean of the Diplomatic Corp in Botswana, to debrief him on the situation in Western Sahara, the African position, and the positions of various actors on the conflict.
During the meeting, the Sahrawi Ambassador expressed Saharawi appreciation of the Russian position, stressing that the conflict in Western Sahara is a decolonization issue that must be resolved by totally respecting the relevant international laws relating to decolonisation.
He emphasized that any solution that violates the international legality in this regard will have a disastrous impact on the African continent and on several spots of border disputes across the world.
On the other hand, the two parties discussed several other issues, including the situation in North Africa and Africa, while the Russian Ambassador informed his guest about the diplomatic history, activities and traditions in Botswana. (SPS)
