Submitted on

New York (United Nations), September 29, 2018 (SPS) - Envoy Host Kohler on Friday invited the Polisario Front to the first talks with Morocco in December in Geneva, which aim to revive the peace process in Western Sahara stalled since 2012, a close source told APS on Friday.
The Polisario Front on Friday received an invitation from the former German president to attend the first direct negotiations scheduled for 4-5 December in Switzerland, said the source.
On Thursday, Kohler informed the Polisario Front delegation, present in New York, of the steps he intends to take soon to reopen the UN-backed political process, including the invitation of both parties to a new round of negotiations before 2019.
During his recent briefing at the Security Council in August, the UN envoy promised to send invitations to both sides to the first talks in late November or early December.
Kohler explained to Security Council that those first talks aimed to provide a basic framework for future negotiations on matters of substance, revealed the Security Council’s October 2018 monthly forecast. (SPS)
