IUSY renews support for struggle of Saharawi people for self-determination and independence

Rome, June 25, 2018 (SPS) - The International Union of Socialist Youth (IUSY) on Saturday renewed its support for the struggle of the Saharawi people for self-determination and independence.

In its final statement issued at the end of the work of the Meeting of the Committee for the Middle East, IUSY urged the United Nations to assume its responsibilities regarding the Saharawi people and to press for a solution that guarantees the right to self-determination and the decolonization of Western Sahara.

In its final statement, IUSY called on the countries of the European Union to comply with the resolutions of international legitimacy related to Western Sahara, and to comply fully with the judgment of the European Court of Justice.

The statement demanded respect for human rights in the occupied territories of Western Sahara.

It appealed to the donor countries to provide sustainable humanitarian support to the Sahrawi refugees.

The meeting of Mediterranean Socialist Youth started on Friday and was attended by a delegation from the Union of Saharawi Students, addressed different issues such as conflicts in the Middle East and North Africa and their impact on the Mediterranean region, among others. (SPS)
