Ubbi Bouchraya; AU Thirtieth Summit decisions reflect Africa firm commitment with a solution to Saharawi conflict

Submitted on

Paris (France), February 01 , 2018 (SPS) - The representative of the Frente POLISARIO in France, Ubbi Bouchraya, emphasized  that the decisions of the AU Thirtieth Summit reflect that the African block has a solid commitment to the resolution of the Western Sahara conflict, based on a referendum of self-determination of the Saharawi people, in accordance with the resolutions of the UN and the AU.
The Saharawi diplomat added that "the occupation of Western Sahara places Morocco, morally and politically, outside the AU", and adds that the Pan-African Organization, accompanied its will to achieve a renewed dynamic, with its decision to activate the Committee of Heads of State and Government for Western Sahara.
Along the same lines, before underlining the need to create an independent mechanism to protect human rights in Western Sahara, the AU demanded the return of the civilian component of MINURSO that was expelled by Morocco, in a clear challenge to international legality.
In this regard, the final statment of the African Summit called for the legal status of the territory to be respected, as a territory pending decolonization, which implies the illegality of the activities sponsored by the occupier, such as the Forum Crans Montana, foreseen next month of March and that the UA called to boycott it.
Ubbi Buchraya, transmitted that the POLISARIO, welcomes the "historic decision that affirms the unanimous support of Africa to the struggle of the Saharawi people", and whose effect will allow to promote the historical role of Africa as a participant, together with international community , in "the peaceful settlement of the conflict of the last decolonization in Africa".SPS
