President of Republic informs UNSC President on seriousness situation after illegal convictions against Gdeim Izik prisoners

Bir Lehlu, August 03, 2017 (SPS) - The President of the Republic, Secretary General of the Frente POLISARIO, Brahim Gali, has sent a letter to the President of the Security Council, Amru Abdelatif, on the seriousness of the situation after Illegal sentences handed down on 19 July by a Moroccan court against the Sahrawi political prisoners of Gdeim Izik.
 
The President of the Republic and after recalling the irregularities surrounding the trial, such as torture, falsification of evidence and testimony, etc., stressed that "sentences ranging from 20 years to life imprisonment are not different from those dictated by the illegal military court in 2013."
 
the head of state clarified that "the new and serious violations of human rights and international humanitarian law committed by Morocco reflect their intention to punish Saharawi political prisoners for defending the application of the UN Charter and Self-determination of the Saharawi people ".
 
In the same regard, Brahim Gali, asserted that the international organizations that followed the process affirmed the illegality of the process and demanded the nullity of the sentences, since they contradict international law that does not allow the application of the Moroccan jurisdiction over the Western Sahara.
 
The President of the Republic urged the UN to create a mechanism for the protection and promotion of human rights in Western Sahara, based on the responsibility of the International organization on the territory that is suffering the violations of the Moroccan occupant of the rights of its population.
 
The Saharawi president concluded it letter by calling  on the SC President to "make the necessary decisions so that Morocco accelerates the release of the prisoners of Gdeim Izik and all Saharawi political prisoners in Moroccan prisons." SPS
