Sahrawi ambassador to Algiers denounces prison sentences against Gdeim Izik group

Algiers, July 20, 2017 (SPS)  - Ambassador of the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic (SADR) to Algeria Bachraya Hamoudi Bayoune denounces the heavy prison sentences handed down Wednesday against the political prisoners of Gdeim Izik.
These prison sentences were predictable, considering the political nature of the trial, which concerns detainees defending a just cause and claiming their rights to freedom and independence, he said.
In a statement to APS, Bayoune said "the sentences passed by the Moroccan court "were predictable, because the trial was purely political and the only fault of the defendants was claiming their rights to freedom and independence."
"These sentences would further strengthen Sahrawis' determination to continue their struggle and condemn Moroccan repression against the Sahrawi people, who claim their right to freedom and self-determination," he added.
The Sahrawi diplomat underlined that the Polisario Front, the only legitimate representative of Sahrawi people, will continue its cooperation with international human rights organizations with a view to exerting pressures on Moroccan authorities to abide by the law.SPS
