Kingstown (Saint Vincent and the Grenadines), May 17, 2017 (SPS) - The Frente  POLISARIO Representative to the UN, Bujari Ahmed, invited by the UN Special Committee on Decolonization, has took part Tuesday at the Regional Seminar on decolonization, held this year in the Caribbean, in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, with the purpose of examining the situation in the Territories under colonial or foreign domination.
The Permanent Representative of Venezuela to the UN, Rafael Ramírez, as Chairman of the Special Committee on Decolonization of the United Nations, inaugurated the Seminar, assuring that "colonialism and foreign occupation is a disgrace to the United Nations" and urged to work In the eradication of this scourge, which currently plagues 17 territories worldwide.

The event saw an intense debate between the Saharawi Representative and the Moroccan Representative, which served to shed light on the maneuvers and misrepresentations of the facts and the position of the international community which still considers that the Saharawi people have the legitimate right to self-determination and independence.
The Moroccan maneuvers at this important meeting of the Committee failed again when the Committee rejected any doubts about the fact that in the name of the Saharawi people only the POLISARIO can speak.
At the meeting that will end with recommendations to the General Assembly of the United Nations, a large number of member countries of the Committee and Observers as well as France, Venezuela as Chairman of the Committee and Russia in the Vice-Presidency took part.
In this event was Ralph Gonsalves, Prime Minister of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, who has been deeply committed to the cause of colonialism and the importance of self-determination of peoples.
Gonsalves thanked the United Nations and in particular the Committee of 24 for their work, however he pointed out that many countries are still living under the yoke of colonialism and that after the independence of Namibia in the 1990s, only one country has achieved independence: East Timor.
The Secretary-General of the United Nations, Antonio Guterres, sent a message in the framework of the Caribbean Regional Seminar on Decolonization in which he recalled that it was fundamental to uphold the principles enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations and reaffirmed its Commitment to decolonization.
