Opening of work of 8th UGTSARIO Congress

Boujdour (refugee camps), Dec 3, 2016 (SPS) The work of the 8th Congress of the Workers' Union of saguia Hamra and rio de oro (UGTSARIO) opened on Saturday in the wilaya of Boujdour under the theme "mobilization of the labour force to impose total sovereignty," bearing the name of martyr Brahim Saika.
The work was started in the presence of Prime Minister Abdelkader Taleb Omar, members of the Polisario Front National Secretariat, Government and National Council, as well as representatives of Sahrawi workers at the level of national institutions, executives of Sahrawi popular liberation army, and foreign delegations.
More than 520 delegates representing different Saharawi sectors and 100 participants from all over the world are expected to attend the 8th congress of the General Union of Saharawi Workers (UGTSARIO), according to the organizers.
The Congress which will be held from 3 to 5 December in the wilaya of Boudjedour (the refugee camps) "is an opportunity for delegates to find ways to meet the challenges faced by Sahrawi workers, to draw up strategies for the next four years and to put in place plans of action to promote the situation of Saharawi workers," said outgoing SG Mohamed Sheikh Mohamed Lahbib in a statement on the eve of this congress.
"It will also be an opportunity for the delegates to renew the bodies of the Union and to draw up a work plan and actions to be carried out over the next four years," noted Mohamed Chiekh.
The participants, he said, "will discuss mechanisms to protect the Saharawi workers in the occupied territories and to support the popular resistance against  the repression of the Moroccan occupier, " adding that "a delegation of the occupied territories will be present at this event." (SPS)
