Morocco's decision to join AU, a maneuver, says Sahrawi FM

Algiers, July 24, 2016 (SPS) - Morocco’s decision to join the African Union (AU) is a "maneuver" to gain time at the international and domestic levels, said Saturday in Algiers, Sahrawi Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mohamed Salem Ould Salek.
Holding a press conference at the Sahrawi Embassy in Algiers, Ould Salek said that Morocco's decision to join the African Union stems from its failures at the international level, notably after accepting the return of the expelled civilian staff of the United Nations Mission for Referendum in Western Sahara (MINURSO).
Earlier, Morocco said that it is a "sovereign and irreversible decision."
The Moroccan decision is a "maneuver to divert the Moroccan public opinion following MINURSO civilian staff return.”
Morocco is currently in "confrontation" with the UN over its attempt to shirk its commitments with the Sahrawi party, namely the 1991 peace agreement known as "the settlement plan" that gave birth to the MINURSO.
Morocco is currently suffering from “international isolation,” as its initiative, called "autonomy proposal" has been rejected and all the human rights organizations condemn it for war crimes, crimes against humanity and even genocide crimes against the Saharawi people, said  Ould Salek.(SPS)
