Independent Diplomat expresses condolences following death of President Mohamed Abdelaziz

New York, June 6, 2016 (SPS) - Executive Director Carne Ross of the diplomatic advisory group, Independent Diplomat, has expressed condolences to the Sahrawi people over the passing away of President of the Republic, Secretary-General of the Polisario Front, Mohamed Abdelaziz, in a letter to Mr. Emhamed Khadad and Ahmed Boukhari.

Below is the full text of the letter:

“On behalf of myself and all of my colleagues at Independent Diplomat, I would like to express my profound condolences for the loss of your President and Secretary-General, Mohamed Abdelaziz. I felt greatly privileged to have met him, both in the refugee camps and in New York when we hosted him at Independent Diplomat. My experiences in the camps all those years ago were life changing. They serve as an ongoing inspiration and reminder of why Independent Diplomat exists.

President Abdelaziz’s unwavering pursuit of justice for the people of Western Sahara is a testament to a life dedicated to his nation’s cause. His skill in navigating the many challenges faced by your people over four decades of leadership was remarkable and exemplary.

Please convey my condolences to his family, all of our friends in the POLISARIO, and indeed all of the people of Western Sahara. We share your grief.

Independent Diplomat remains as committed as ever to the people of Western Sahara. We look forward to continuing our work with you to fulfil President Abdelaziz’s vision of a Western Sahara where the people are allowed to choose their own political future.
