Saharan government expresses strong condemnation of Saudi's intention to invest in occupied Sahrawi territories

Shahid Al-Hafid, March 12, 2016 (SPS) - The Sahrawi government and the Polisario Front has expressed strong condemnation of a visit by a Saudi delegation to the occupied Sahrawi territories to examine ways to invest there, although Western Sahara is a region of international conflict under decolonization process by the United Nations.

In a statement Saturday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs indicated that these behaviors represent a blatant assault on the brotherly Saharawi Muslim people, and scandalous involvement in the plunder and theft of its natural resources, while the Moroccan state of occupation suppresses and besieges it and deprives it of its political, economic and social rights.

The statement added that at a time when the UN Secretary-General emphasized, during his recent visit in the region, the need to accelerate an end to the suffering of the Saharawi people, which lasted more than forty years, and expressed shock about this situation resulting from Morocco's occupation of Western Sahara, we find some of the Gulf states and especially Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, contribute to deepening the wounds and prolong the tragedy.

The statement stressed "it is regrettable that at this time when obvious international resolutions have been issued such as the European Court's decision to invalidate the European agricultural agreement with Morocco, as it includes the Sahrawi occupied territories, and the successively withdrawals of international companies that had been involved in the investment in the region of conflict, we find Saudi Arabia favors the Moroccan occupation and dragged into the swamp of violation of international legitimacy.
