Madrid (Spain), March 12, 2016 (SPA) - Thousands of people from various Spanish cities organize Saturday in Madrid, Spanish, a rally in support of Saharawi political prisoners of Gdeim Izik who have been on unlimited hunger strike since the first of March.

In a statement issued on the occasion, the signatories demanded the immediate release of the group, condemning the sentences issued against them and all political trials against the Sahrawi population by the Moroccan authorities of occupation.

The statement drew the attention of the UN Secretary General to the illegality of the trials of the Saharawi political prisoners, which the organization itself has recognized that they were arbitrary arrests. They also drew his attention to 651 Sahrawis who are still missing by the Moroccan state of occupation.

The signatories also denounced maneuvers and obstacles placed by Morocco to impede the United Nations efforts to find a settlement to this conflict through the self-determination referendum, by which Sahrawi people can freely decide their own future. (SPS)
