Kick off of Sahara-Marathon 20th edition

Wilaya de Smara, 02/25/2020 (SPS) - The 20th  edition of the international event, Sahara-Marathon has started today, with the presence of Sports Minister Musa Salma; the governor of the Willaya of El Aaiún, Brahim Mojtar, and the director of the Sahara Marathon in addition to more than 400 national and foreign runners.

Morocco: Thousands of persons demonstrate in Casablanca against social inequalities

Casablanca (Morocco), 24 February 2020 (SPS) - Several thousands of persons on Sunday demonstrated in the streets of Casablanca (west of Morocco) to denounce social inequalities and the high cost of living, reported media quoting local sources.
The marchers protested against unemployment, the high cost of living and the breakdown of public services while demanding the release of political prisoners.

Non-self-governing territories: UN must continue to be forum for dialogue on decolonization

New York (United Nations), 24 February 2020 (SPS) - The United Nations must continue to be a forum for dialogue on decolonization as 17 territories around the world are still waiting to be self-governing, said UN Secretary General, Antonio Guterres.
"Decolonization is a process that has to be guided by the aspirations and needs of the communities living in the territories," said Guterres in his opening address at the first meeting of the 2020 session of the United Nations Special Committee on Decolonization, Friday in New York.

Nigeria reiterates support to Western Sahara people's just cause

Abuja (Nigeria), 23 February 2020 (SPS) - Foreign Minister Geoffrey Onyeama of Nigeria has reaffirmed his country's firm position over the just cause of Western Sahara people and their right to self-determination.
The minister made the statement when he received the ongoing ambassador of the Saharawi Arab Democratic Republic (SADR), Malainin Sidig, at the ministry's headquarters.

Minister of Economic Development observes agricultural harvest in Wilaya of Smara

Smara (Refugee Camps), 23 February 2020 (SPS) - Minister of Economic Development, Mr. Bulahi Sayed, accompanied by Governor of the Wilaya of Smara, Mr. Mohamed Mustafa Talmidi, on Saturday overlooked the agricultural harvest campaign for this season in the Wilaya of Samara.
The authorities and citizens took part in the harvest campaign.
After harvesting crops, the products were distributed to citizens, especially the needy and vulnerable families, as well as social institutions.

President of Republic chairs meeting of Army's General Staff

Debate on the occasion of the 44th anniversary of the proclamation of the SADR

Havana, February 20, 2020 (SPS) - The Saharawi embassy in Cuba and the Cuban Association of Friends of the United Nations (UNHCR) organized a talk on the occasion of the 44th anniversary of the SADR and the 40 years of the establishment of diplomatic relations SADR-Cuba .
The acting Saharawi counselor, Mohamed Ali Muley Ahamed, presented the conference "Cuban-Saharawi relations." highlighting the current situation in the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic.

Ivory Coast diplomatic representation in Western Sahara: a violation of the constitutive act of the AU

Algiers, Feb 19, 2020 (SPS) - Algeria described on Tuesday the opening by the government of the Republic of Côte d'Ivoire of a diplomatic representation in the occupied Sahrawi city of El Aaiun as "a flagrant violation of international law "and" violation of commitments arising from the Constitutive Act of the African Union (AU) ", according to a press release from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, (Algeria).

World March of Women reaffirms its support to Saharawi women in their annual solidarity day

Geneva (Switzerland), Feb 19, 2020 (SPS) - The World March of Women reaffirmed, on the occasion of commemorating the day of solidarity with Saharawi women, which is celebrated on February 18 of each year, its support for Saharawi women on their annual solidarity day.
The World March of Women urged the international community to intervene immediately to free the political prisoner, Mahfouda Bamba Lafkir, illegally detained by the occupation authorities in El Aaiún prison occupied in serious conditions.

Bir Lehlou (Liberated territory) 19 February 2020 (SPS)- The Saharawi Ministry of the Foreign Affairs considered in a press release issued on 18 February that the opening of a Consulate of Cote d’Ivoire in the occupied city of El Aaiun is an act of aggression against the Saharawi people’s sovereignty.
It further considered it a violation of the basic principles and goals of the African Union’s Constitutive Act.

Algerian Prime Minister reiterates Algeria's constant position on Sahrawi cause

Algiers, 17 February 2020 (SPS) - Algerian Prime Minister Abdelaziz Djerad reiterated Thursday the constant position of Algeria towards the Sahrawi causes.
In his response to the concerns of the deputies of the People's National Assembly regarding the plan of action of the Algerian government, which centered on the Palestinian and Saharan issues, Mr. Djerad reaffirmed that Algeria's position is firm on the Sahrawi cause and its people, and that Algeria supports the rights of peoples to determine their own destiny, no matter how close or far they are.

Free Western Sahara Aotearoa protest action at Environment Canterbury

Human rights activists took over the flagpole at Environment Canterbury today, raising the flag of Western Sahara in solidarity with the Saharawi people. This coincided with a visit from a Moroccan delegation at Environment Canterbury, including the President of OCP (which is the Moroccan owned mining company in Western Sahara). Their visit was prompted following the actions of New Zealanders demanding Ravensdown to stop importing blood phosphate from Western Sahara, which is being illegally and brutally occupied by Morocco.

Western Sahara’s maritime space: European Parliament to examine Morocco’s expansionist laws

Strasbourg, 15 February 2020 (SPS)- The European Parliament decided Wednesday to take up the issue of two expansionist laws adopted by the Moroccan House of Councillors, on 4 February 2020, which claim to include the waters of Western Sahara into the kingdom’s maritime space.
In the face of such a violation of the international legality, the European Parliament called on the European Commission to react quickly.

Polisario Front hails creation of "Peace for Saharawi People" Intergroup

New Zealand is once again the subject of attention by Moroccan agents who seek to perpetuate the illegal import of plundered phosphate rock from Western Sahara. Morocco has dispatched a large delegation to New Zealand to lobby for the continuation of the illegal phosphate trade.
The trade - which featured in a civil court case in South Africa in 2017 - has been fostered despite declining worldwide sales, in an effort to ensure a democratic, progressive New Zealand remains a participant, giving it a veneer of legitimacy.
